Post-Injection Myths About Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Get The Truth

Anti-wrinkle injections are becoming ever more popular these days as a lot of people prefer to avoid this common sign of ageing. However, along with their increasing popularity comes a number of myths about what you should and shouldn’t do after treatment. These myths can make people reluctant to get these treatments done. To clear up these misunderstandings, and to make it clear just how easy it really is to care for your skin after anti-wrinkle treatments, here are some of those myths and the truth about them.

What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe and very popular treatment during which Botox is injected into specific areas. Botox is made from a neurotoxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, otherwise known as botulism. Although this sounds a little frightening, Botox has been used for decades for this purpose. There have also been a number of studies performed which show no negative side effects from long term use.

Botox works by relaxing the muscles so they can no longer contract and cause the skin above them to crease and wrinkle. This will give you a smooth, more youthful appearance. However, despite these advantages, there are also a number of myths about aftercare of anti-wrinkle injection sites including the following:

You Shouldn’t Lay Down After Treatments

This myth is completely baseless. The substance used for anti-wrinkle treatments isn’t affected by the position of your body, so feel free to lie down and rest afterwards.

You Mustn’t Drink Alcohol After the Treatment

Obviously you probably shouldn’t go straight out and drink a whole bottle of wine. However, there’s no reason why you can’t drink alcohol in the evening after you have the procedure done.

You Can’t Exercise After Anti-Wrinkle Injections

This is absolutely untrue. As long as you’re feeling well, there’s no reason why you can’t exercise after having this treatment.

The Truth About Aftercare

Anti-wrinkle injection sites are actually very easy to care for. Just make sure you don’t rub the site, because this could cause the product to move to other areas and cause unpredictable results. Also don’t have a facial or a facial massage as this could cause the same result.

If you notice any bruising or redness, a cold compress or ice pack will help to soothe the area and decrease any discolouration you experience. Just make sure you follow any instructions that you were given after your anti-wrinkle treatment regarding these kinds of interventions.

You shouldn’t need to have any downtime at all after this treatment. The needles used are tiny, and at most may cause temporary swelling or bruising. That’s why most people have this treatment in their lunch hour and then go back to work as if nothing has happened. And this is a great way to use your lunch hour to give your face a long lasting, fresh look.
